For Better Mental Health
Great Yarmouth & Waveney Mind

The Organisation

Great Yarmouth and Waveney Mind is a registered charity which supports people whose lives are affected by mental ill-health.

Established in 1978, we are the largest voluntary sector mental health service in the area and have achieved national recognition for our innovative approach to service delivery and the quality of organisational management. Our success has been built on extensive experience and our ability to respond to changes introduced by national and local government directive and to the views of the people who use our services.

Regular consultation with service users, staff, volunteers, trustees and other agencies as well as continuous monitoring of standards has helped us to build a strong foundation on which to develop.

The organisation is affiliated to Mind (NAMH) which is concerned that local associations improve clinical quality and corporate governance standards. An awareness of this challenge and the necessity to respond to local needs are the mainspring of policy.

The Community

Great Yarmouth currently rates in the top 10% of the DETR’s deprivation indices. The organisation supports those who are disadvantaged by their disability in a geographic area disadvantaged by social and economic deprivation. It is recognised that people affected by or living with mental illness are more often living on low income, are un-employed or in receipt of state benefit; are socially excluded and have poorer physical health than the general population.

Great Yarmouth and Waveney Mind long ago adopted an holistic approach to service delivery and seeks to address the many disadvantages that contribute to delayed recovery and stable well-being.

About Us

Trustees

Great Yarmouth and Waveney Mind is overseen by a Board of Trustees which is currently Chaired by Dr Christopher Reynolds

Trustees are people who are entrusted to look after money or other resources that have been given to a charity and to utilise those assets in the interests of the beneficiaries of that Charity, and in accordance with the wishes of the donor.  The board of Trustees is the governing body of the organisation and ultimately responsible for everything it does.  Boards are made up of people who give their time and carry out their duties voluntarily.  Generally Trustees govern the organisation by acting together as a group, setting aside personal interests and reaching decisions in a consensual way at regular board meetings. The Board of Trustees is currently looking to recruit a further two Trustees to work with and support a successful team of staff and service users.

Great Yarmouth and Waveney Mind are currently seeking to recruit a further two Trustees and if you would like more information about this please look at the section on Volunteering which you can find by clicking on the menu bar at the top of this page.
