In partnership with Work 2 Grow, creating opportunities for individuals to build a routine in their lives, learn new skills and build confidence, self esteem and to engage in their community.

The manufacturing and selling of hand crafted wood products and garden furniture, supporting the skills development of people with mental health problems and people who are socially disadvantaged are central to the sustainability of the project.

The project is self funded and income is generated through retail sales.

All products are manufactured from sustainable wood sources.

GYW Natural Environment has developed a new service which is based on the 5 Ways to Well Being working in partnership with Work to Grow and the Well-being case worker.

The project is open 3 days a week and delivers separate workshops led and supported by volunteers who have previously experienced health difficulties.

Trainees learn by doing, training is not theory based.

Activities include;

  • Identifying opportunities to work within the local community.
  • Basic carpentry skills (involving use of hand tools, identifying and making joints, workshop etiquette)
  • Building nesting boxes (use of hand tools, planning, design, assemble and finishing)
  • Fancy goods workshop (fine detailed carpentry)
  • Production of high quality garden furniture
  • Community response (visiting sites in response to request for orders eg schools)
  • Guided nature walks
