Work to Grow
This is an award winning vocational project which offers accredited learning and opportunities to support individuals into employment, volunteering or vocational activity.
The project partners GY Woodstock Natural Environment which manufactures and sells handcrafted wood products and garden furniture. All profits from retail sales are reinvested into the partnership as the project is self funded and income is generated through retail sales and delivery of training courses.
Work to Grow is staffed by:
David Dickeson: Assessor Coordinator
Kye Rodriguez: Carpentry & Joinery Tutor
Bev Cox: Carpentry & Joinery Tutor
We are a National Open College Network accredited training centre. Accredited courses are delivered by certificated and qualified sector specialists.
Our priority is to increase mental and physical wellbeing for people suffering from mild anxiety and depression to more enduring mental illness.
We focus on increasing the individual’s opportunity to learn, the training is not prescriptive it is flexible and tailored to suit the trainee’s needs in a stimulating and productive workplace thus expanding their ambitions and realising their potential.
The project previously delivered readiness to work programmes on behalf of the Working Neighborhood Fund to residents in the borough of Great Yarmouth.
All courses provided are now also available to any residents of the Waveney area of Suffolk.
The courses we provide are varied and innovative programme of practical and vocational qualifications to form part of our work readiness programmes.
We offer a number of trade courses and during the placements ongoing emotional, practical and social support is provided as well as training and support to access advice sessions such as benefits advice, CV writing and interview techniques.
We use an innovative approach to provide real life opportunities for users of the project to build self esteem, confidence and to gain skills for personal development in preparation for employment or further education which is evidenced through a portfolio of achievement. These can demonstrate to individuals and the employment market that people suffering from mental ill health can be successful in the work place.
The project has achieved much since it began in January 2010, assisting in reducing the number of people claiming out of work benefits and increased the number of local people accessing job opportunities.
